Seats
The majority of 3 wheel double buggies begin life as single pushchairs. However, some can be converted to take the seat of a second person or carrycot using adapters (these are more commonly found in tandem buggies). There are also models will allow you to add a ride-on board to older children who wish to walk, but need some help.
Take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for city streets. It's a breeze to move and has a deep basket with plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from at birth and can accommodate two car seats or a carrycot with a seat. However, the seats need to face forwards and there's no space for a shopping bag underneath, so you'll need a backpack for that.
If you like to take off-road trips and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a excellent option. It's a side-by-side with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. This makes it easier to fit through narrow doors and on public transport, and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without too much trouble. The adjustable handlebar features an additional handbrake for security and safety.
Another lightweight choice is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used for twins or a toddler and baby. The seats feature multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple using the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack board for older and mobile kids.
The iCandy Orange is one of the most well-known double buggies that are available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's an all-terrain model with soft suspension that is able to handle bumpy surfaces. It offers 30 different seating options, a built-in board for older children who like walking, and a "cinema mode that raises the back seats for better visibility.
The phil&teds dots are brilliant single buggys that can be easily modified to accommodate two (or three!) in a variety of configurations. This is especially useful when you have a child in your car. The frame can be affixed to a wedgie, which allows for the best lie-flat position. Or car seat adapters that work with many brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3-wheel buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children can push it. A smooth ride is crucial since babies can feel every bump on the road, especially when it's in rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Certain models also have locking front wheels to help in maneuvering and navigating obstacles such as curbs.
Certain models come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain rides, but they are susceptible to punctures. Make sure you keep an extra set of tyres in the trunk. Certain models come with gel-filled or foam-filled tyres which are designed to absorb bumps. They can be less likely to puncture, however they could cause discomfort for your child if you decide to run.

Folding
A 3 wheel double buggy can fold pretty easily for storage. There are options that fold flat and then stand up (as if they're in a pushchair position) and also ones that pop out to reveal a more umbrella-style fold, with an electric brake. In general, the more wheels a buggy comes with the more able it will be to handle on rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the typical size. You will have more stability and it will be less likely that you will be forced to tip over or flip your child.

This is one of the most comfortable double buggies to jog in with your kids. It features a front wheel that can be locked, that will allow you to maintain control on hills or off-road terrain. One thing that a lot of people appreciate about a good triple wheeled double buggy is the storage capacity. Certain models, like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket and 2 handy zip pockets inside the hood that keep your keys and phone easily accessible. It's also designed for dealing with rough terrain, so it's a great choice for family walks or all-terrain walks.
Other models such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2 offer plenty of space, and the ability to carry twins or a baby and a toddler (it uses their 'PiggyBack' boards to allow this to be done). It's the slimmest side-by-side double available and comes with some impressive tech including game-changing LED visibility lights that change on each side of the frame to ensure security in low-light conditions.
For something a little different, the Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight buggy that can accommodate twins from birth (it's open to the world and features the ability to lie flat). Its clever frame expands to allow for an additional seat, yet it weighs only 11kg. This makes it easy to move and lift. It can be used with the car seat, a carrycot, or both. This allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
